The chapter starts out with Rio, who is rushing through simultaneously brushing her hair, eating breakfast and freaking out that she's going to be late for school. However she somehow finds time to peek at the news on TV, which just at that moment is announcing the newest gossip in the entertainment world; popular announcer Matsunaga Seiji is supposedly having a torrid love affair with gravure idol Sakurai Miuru (She's the one who was rubbing her chest on him in Chapter 37). Rio totally doesn't believe it, and the newscaster announces as a side note that both parties are denying it, "But..." Once Rio gets to school she is scouting Shiharu out trying to decide if she's heard the news report or not. Rio asks Shiharu if she watched TV this morning and Shiharu said she had, but then goes on to say that she watched some anime the younger kids at the orphanage had on while she was making breakfast. Rio is then distraught about whether or not she should tell Shiharu or hope she never hears about it. The choice is taken out of Rio's hands, however, when Shiharu opens her phone to show Rio her new background image and just at that moment the news headline running along the bottom of the screen is about the Matsunaga X Sakurai rumors. (In Japan, cellphones by default have news headlines running along the bottom of the main screen like an advertisement bar on a website. You can turn it off if you want but many people don't bother.) Rio panics and immediately starts explaining that on the news they said that both parties were denying the rumors so it's nothing to worry about, but Shiharu, after a minute of looking hurt, smiles and said that even if it were true it's fine because she isn't in a position that she can think of actually dating Matsunaga-san or anything. But (with good reason) Rio doesn't believe her, and is still troubled by the situation while she's out with Takeru-kun after school. He asks her what's wrong and she evades the question but then suddenly remembers(?) that Takeru-kun and Matsunaga-san are pretty close, so she asks him if Matsunaga-san is a "player" (LOL). Takeru-kun denies that he and Matsunaga-san are especially close, but says that he doesn't think Matsunaga-san is like that at all. Then he gets suspicious and asks Rio if she's asking because she secretly likes Matsunaga-san or something.Rio immediately denies it and blurts out "Not me, Shiharu----" before she realizes what she was saying. Takeru-kun is extremely pleased with himself and says he thought so, and then announces his intention to help them get together, all the while Rio is freaking out and begging him not to say anything to either of them. Takeru-kun agrees not to tell but says that doesn't mean he can support them, right? The scene changes to Shiharu, who's at the orphanage doing her homework and moping around looking at pictures of Matsunaga-san's rumored lover, the gravure idol. It's obvious she's much more bothered by the rumors that she wanted anyone to know. She tries to tell herself that she's happy as long as Matsunaga-san is happy, but she remembers Rio's words that it's almost valentine's day, and how happy Matsunaga-san was last year when she gave him chocolate. She wants to give him chocolate again this year so she can see him smile, but she knows she shouldn't now that he "has a girlfriend." The next day at school, Rio and Takeru's evil scheme is revealed when she proposes to Shiharu that Rio, Takeru, Shiharu, Matsunaga-san, Akane and Aoi should all go to the amusement park together on Valentine's Day. According to the pamphlet, the amusement park is running a special on that day only where pairs get a discount on admission, and the greater the discount. Shiharu agrees to ask, but she secretly expects he'll have plans with his "girlfriend" on Valentine's Day and won't be able to go. However, to her surprise he agrees immediately when she asks him about it, saying he's free in the evening that day. He asks the twins if they'd like to go and they are delighted, as this is their first time going to an amusement park. Shiharu tries weakly to protest, asking if it's really okay to go on Valentine's Day but Matsunaga-san misunderstands her as being concerned with being recognized given the large amount of people who will be there that day. He earnestly promises that he'll be careful and wear a really good disguise, and Shiharu has no choice but to agree. That night, Shiharu once again turns to her chocolate cookbook, and although she feels guilty for wanting to give chocolate to "someone else's boyfriend," she is determined because with the current situation she has an excuse for giving him chocolate while she's giving it to everyone else, so it won't be awkward. Shiharu and the kids at the orphanage are making chocolate together when the chapter ends, with the promise of another chapter on 5/2!
