Sugar Apple Fairy Tale - Volume 1: Chapter 3, 4, and 5A

Happy Valentine's Day! As a Valentine's Day present, Aqua Scans and I have worked for almost a month to prepare a special giant release for you guys. There are 106 pages of Sugar Apple Fairytale in this release post!!

Light novel releases don't get re-posted on other sites the way manga does, so there aren't many places for us to read your feedback or chapter discussion. That's why I wish more people would comment on light novel release posts. Not necessarily to say "thank you," but rather to discuss what happened in the chapter and what you liked, disliked, and hope will happen next. Based on the comments on previous chapters, only 3 people read these light novel translations. That's depressing.

With the end of Chapter 5A, our light novel releases are caught up with the end of the most recent manga chapter  (manga chapter 6) released in Japan.

Look forward to new material that hasn't appeared in the manga yet starting from Chapter 5B!

Finally, here is a Valentine's Day card that Mizuouji from Aquascans made for us! This image is taken from Volume 4. It was originally all in gray but Mizu-chan colored it beautifully. The quote is an actual quote from Shall in a later volume. I haven't read that far, so I don't know which volume he says it in, but he does say it!

  2. Thank you very much for all your hard work and this wonderful release! Sorry for rarely commenting on your releases of Sugar Apple. It absolutely does not mean that I'm not interested!:) I love Aki-sensei's artwork, so Sugar Apple appealed to me and bought first volume in hard copy. And actually, I am trying to read it in Japanese. But your translations are very useful for me: I'm trying to read volume 1 in Japanese and then look at your translation to check whether or not I understood correctly:)))

    1. Thanks for you comment Oloore, I really appreciate it! There's no way to know how many people read the file I link to (it doesn't keep track of page views) so I can only guess based on the number of comments :P
Good luck with your Japanese studies! I'm so glad to hear you purchased a copy of volume 1. Let me know if there's anything you need help understanding. Although I try to stick as close to the original as possible, sometimes my translations are not word for word, but rather translate the meaning of the sentence. Usually this happens with grammar in Japanese that has no equivalent in English.

  4. You may not know it, but I stalk your blog daily! I'm just horrible at commenting. I really appreciate your work on this light novel and all of the other goodies you upload. I may not be able to read Japanese, but I still like looking at all the pretty pictures. Happy Valentine's and I wish you all the best in Japan!

  6. Finally I decided to try this LN. Thanks for translating. I'll be following and commenting from now on. I can not believe he did this to Ann, has to be another explanation ...  Maybe he will help, paying the favor this way even after being suspect. I feel sorry for him more than Ann, if he is innocent >_< i mirror Shall words "shut up human!"

    1. I'm glad you decided to give the light novel a try! I'm also glad we've finally managed to translate enough that it's worth reading. It's hard to figure out if it's a good story just from 1 chapter, right?
I agree, Mythrill was so sincere to Ann, why would he steal the silver sugar. But if he didn't, then why would Kathy lie? Is there some other fairy that could fit into the window?

    2. Shall didn't say, it was Mythrill, i mistook. I have at least three theories but let's see what really happened in the next chapters. I usually read an entire volume before criticizing. But I am enjoying a world of candy haha, sweet is a blessing. And while humans enslave fairies. How ugly. Again, thank you for translating.

    3. Hehe then after the volume ends I'd love to hear what your theories were! I also think it's a really interesting contradiction between the ugly themes of slavery and other happy-go-lucky themes.

  7. Been a lurker for a long time and I usually never comment in blogs, but I really wanted to say thank you for taking your time to do these translations. Your writing is definitely top notched and even better than a ton of professionally translated Japanese novels. I've been reading translations for this novel before you took over and almost gave up but when I read yours, the feeling was completely different. There isn't that lacking/empty feeling you usually get from translated novels. Anyways, thank you for your hard work and dedication. We really appreciate it :)

    1. Joirobo!! This is the kindest comment anyone has ever left for me! I cried a little bit when I read it. I try really really hard to make the light novel translation read smoothly. It's still a bit choppy, but it's much more so in Japanese. It's not that Mikawa Miri is a bad writer, it just seems that the rules of grammar are much more fluid in Japanese... so there are a lot of really weird sentences that are completely illogical in English if you translate it directly.
Thank you for always lurking and always reading! And thanks for coming out of lurker-dom to leave a comment for me. It really inspired me to keep go-go-going!!!

  9. Thank you so much for your hard work!! I was shocked but very happy when I saw there were 3 new chapters. As for the story, I don't believe Mythrill did it. I think that Kathy is either lying because Jonas told her to or she was forced to lie in order to protect her master. Maybe the guys at the doctor's inn are involved? I don't know. I'll wait and see :)

    1. Yeah, maybe even jealous because the guys said that Ann is better than her master. If it was thoses guys maybe they have a faire how is similar too mythrill or some ability of ilusion? Low probable.

    2. I thought about that too. Maybe they wanted to eliminate some concorrence but then, it seems like they had nothing to worry about since they declared that Ann and Jonas skills weren't good enough...

    3. Hugh and Salim are very suspicious and mysterious!!!
