[Light Novel] Sugar Apple Fairy Tale - Volume 1, Chapter 5B [Joint with Aqua Scans]

It's been a while since the last release of this series. Okay, so it's only been a little over 2 weeks, but it feels like forever! I wasn't trying to draw out the anticipation by making you guys wait or anything underhanded like that! I just lost my translating mojo for a while after I had surgery. The truth is, it hurt to bend over close enough that I could see the computer screen well enough to translate! I translate from the scans mizuouji provided, which I uploaded online so I can access them from any computer. I read the online RAWs and type the translation into a google document. This way I can work on it from my laptop or the computer at work. However, it's impossible to zoom in on the pages of the online reader, so the characters are tiny and I have to lean in close to the screen to figure out what they say. Luckily I'm not in pain anymore and I'm getting lots of overtime at work so I have nothing to do but translate. Mojo restored!

Anyways, enough of my ramblings. As you probably already know, this is a joint project with Aqua Scans. Please stop by their site and thank them for their work.

Please post your thoughts after reading in the comments section! This is a super action-packed chapter with a lot of drama and a huge plot twist. I can't imagine there is anyone who won't have anything to say after reading! To be safe, I'm declaring a SPOILER WARNING for the comments section of this post. If you don't want to be spoiled, please read the chapter before reading the comments on this post.

  1. OMG OMG I wasn't wrong about Jonas. This part of the chapter was really amazing.
For the record I just read the note at the end, so I thought that sugar apples were poisoned and they did not know. I wish it was for him to get into trouble later. Well, i'll read with more calm and comment later again.

    1. Thanks for your comment Yasmin! This really was a good chapter, right?! Jonas is a sly fox!! I can't stand how he told Ann "This is your fault; if you're just fallen in love with me and agreed to marry me, I wouldn't have had to do something like this."

    1. You're welcome!
I was really shocked; before I read it I thought Jonas was too dumb to double-cross Ann, so I was surprised.

  5. And here I was, just thinking that Kathy had stolen the sugar out of spite. Quite the shocker! I didn't think Jonas was so evil-spirited. I mean, dumping blood on her? Eeek.

  6. Omg! This is such an amazing chapter! Thanks so much for translating! I also initially thought the apple tree were poisonous and Ann would get poisoned picking them or something like that. But...I couldn't believe Jonas was that horrible, he really intended to kill Ann by splattering all that blood on her :/ at least I know he wouldn't win the contest because it was Ann's monkey see monkey do sculpture. Maybe Ann would later on create an original of hers so that she would win! Like maybe the one she would make for Shall later on?

    1. I'm glad you liked it!! Sorry for the misleading translation of the title. I'm glad I added the note at the end to clarify.
I think Jonas knew that Shall wouldn't let Ann get hurt, but he also knew that the wolves would keep him busy long enough for Jonas and Kathy to get away.
I can't stand Kathy! Even if she is in love with Jonas, she should know better than to agree to his schemes...
PS Your instincts are pretty sharp! *wink*

  7. Wow what an intense chapter!! I totally did not see that coming. I was so sure it was all Kathy's doing... Kinda glad to get rid of Jonas though cause he just seems like an extra baggage

    1. It was sooo intense, right?! I think it's the most intense chapter in the volume, except for maybe the last chapter.
Kathy is despicable, if you ask me! Even though I feel bad with her for being in one-sided love with Jonas...

  9. Wow Jonas is such a jerk. I think even if Ann agreed to marry him, he'd still fool her into making sugar sculptures...it's just that it didn't go as he wished so might as well just kill her instead and take the sculpture by force. I don't think he love her, really. Rather, I'd say he's jealous of her skill? Uwaaaa I hope he didn't win anything with Ann's sculpture! Now I desperately want some spoilersT.T

    1. He is a huge jerk! It's such a relief that Ann didn't agree to marry him, right?! She'd find out soon after what a bad person he is, but she'd be stuck with him. I don't know if divorce is possible in this country...
Jonas definitely is jealous of Ann's skill! He might have forgiven her for being better than him if she agreed to marry him and add her skill to his family's shop, but her rejecting him probably made him hate her even more!! You'll find out more in later novels, but women are not welcome in the world of sugarcraft.

  10. Ok, I'm back! And first of all I'd like to thank you for your hard work. I totally forgot about that due to the shock. I'm still a little shocked. I mean, come on! He really wanted to kill her! He's a little monster! Anyway, I think that unless there's some sort of miracle, she won't be in the contest. Even if she did, I never pictured her winning and I honestly don't think Jonas will win either (althought that would be interesting...). Those guys at the doctor inn could give some help but I'm not sure they will and I can't see Shall or Myrthrill being of any help. But the good thing is that she can get out of there, right? She's shocked and feeling betrayed but she still has her horses and Jonas carriedge.

One more thing, I have a question but I'm not sure anyone can answer it yet: Myrthrill is wearing one of his wings around his neck (The one Ann got back). Can't he put it on his back? Will it stay like that for the rest of his life?

    1. Haha, welcome back Jada! Glad your brain is working again :D
Jonas is a monster! Not only that, he's a coward. He could have just killed her himself and taken her sugar sculpture. If he killed her and ran away without Shall knowing, Shall might not even bother chasing him down and killing him in return, since he would have his wing back and would be free. But Jonas is too weak-willed to do it himself, so he left her to get killed by wolves!
Though, in my opinion, there was never any danger that she would die, because Shall was there.
Chapter 7 is the sugar sculpture festival! I can't wait until everyone can read what happens there! It's another big shock :D :D :D
I wonder what role Hugh and Salim will have in the rest of the novel... Who they really are... (Actually, I already know, lol.)
Come on, Ann! Get your genki back!

About your question, No, Mythrill can't reattach his wing. I wondered the same thing at first, but it seems that when a fairy's wing is plucked off, it's like an amputation. Non-reversible :(
